Some of the reviews of Pottermore are very good, whilst others, very bad. I’m not quite sure where I stand at the moment.

At first I was very excited. I was checking the Pottermore website every day, and then one morning when I went on, it was open!
Only a few months late…

I love Harry Potter and Pottermore is a great idea. However, it definitely needs improving.

Pottermore

You can tell that a lot of thought has gone into each of the scenes, and I like the way that it goes through the books chapter by chapter. However, there is only the first book out at the moment, and I completed it on the first day. Although I can still duel and make potions, they start to get a bit boring after a while.

Also, it is incredibly slow to load on whatever computer or laptop I go on, and I have to constantly keep reloading the page. URGH!

A part that I liked a lot was the sorting hat ceremony, because I could feel the tension building up, and you can only take the test ONCE – you can’t redo it later – so once you have been given your house (Go Gryffindor) you have to stick with it.

I love Pottermore so far, but wish that  there was more to do on each chapter than just collect chocolate frog cards, random objects, potion ingredients, etc. Many of these, you can’t do anything with, other than sending them to people on your friend list, who have already collected the objects themselves. It would be great if I was able to socialise with people and write directly to them, even if it was just to say, “Hi. It is me, Cowie, that has friend requested you ~CentaurSnitch1250~,” because due to the random choice of Usernames, people won’t be able to recognise me. I understand the restrictions that Pottermore has, being meant for all ages, but it gets a bit plain when you can’t even comment to an online friend.

Thank you for reading my post. I’m sorry to sound so negative. Pottermore really is great, and if you don’t have it already, I would highly recommend it. With a few adjustments and changes, it could be truly brilliant!

I must check it out. I meant to sign up for it last year but completely forgot about it until I saw your post tonight. Thanks for reminding me!

The illustrations in pottermore is definitely amazing! But i have to agree… it needs a lot of improving.

I completely agree! It gets boring after the first couple of days. Heck, I haven’t even bothered logging in this week. But yes, excitement will build up with each of the books, but it doesn’t seem they will unlock them anytime soon. I’d be surprised if they unlock anything after CoS this year.

By the way, I’m Ravenclaw. NoxHex5772. Add up 😀

You’ve said a lot of what the beta testers didn’t like about it. I can tell you though, it defintely has improved a lot since it opened up to beta. Wizard duel was down for most of it and some potions took 100 minutes to brew and there wasn’t even any sound! But I agree, it needs to be more interactive and social and you can only do so much brewing and dueling. I’m sure they’ll include a few more things as more books are released. I think homework and Wizard’s Chess were popular choices!
